updates, news and discussion about a blockchain powered forum temporarily down

Just as a heads up - is down temporarily (occurred about one hour before from the timestamp of this post). I have a ticket open, but I'm assuming the internet has been knocked out near the data center as there's reports of a lot of people's servers experiencing downtime and the weather report shows severe storms passing through the area.

I finally get to the point where I have a bit of redundancy at the server level, and now the data center goes down completely :)

chainBB v0.3.0 - social feed, following, and forum subscriptions

Today I'm proud to announce the release of chainBB v0.3, which encompasses many familiar and new social features. This post will go through these features one by one, outlining the changes and describing some of the rationale behind them. But first, since every post seems to require answering the question:

chainBB is a discussion forum style interface on the Steem blockchain. It's a completely standalone alternative to, and built by me, @jesta. It uses many of the same mechanics that uses, but presents the information in a much different way. All posts on the Steem blockchain are available via chainBB, just as they are on

Running my own curation trail experiment to promote chainBB testing/feedback

A couple week ago, @cryptoctopus ran an experiment - How to become a paid beta tester - to encourage users to give chainBB a shot and help solicit feedback. It brought many new users the chainBB to give it a shot and helped reward those users for doing so. 3 Days ago, that experiment ended and the auto voting stopped. It was simply too draining after HF19 to continue voting with the patterns he had set out. I decided to try my hand on it as well since it encouraged participation so well!

So starting last night, I crunched some numbers, and decided to take my own shot at it.

chainBB - voting controls update + estimated rewards (for HF19)

With a successful hardfork today and a changes happening to how voting percentages work - I figured it might be wise to take a few hours to adjust the voting controls on chainBB.

As always, the beta is available here:
